Africans at State House: June 18th

During the celebration, we will recognize members of the African community whose accomplishments in community organizing, entrepreneurship and public service has advanced the social, economic and political aspects of society.

We invite you to nominate and vote for individuals whose commitment and record have proven exemplary in any of the categories listed below.

The award categories and criteria for nomination are:

1.Community Leader/Organizer Award: Will be awarded to an individual that has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service on behalf of the African Community in Massachusetts by bringing their community together for an activity or action.

2. Entrepreneurial Award: Awarded to an individual that has contributed to the economic vitality and to the well-being of their community. This person must be responsible for the growth of business, employment opportunities, or personal wealth of their community.

3. Public Service Award: Will be awarded to a person that has fostered development of their community through education, and community advancement.  This individual has worked to create positive change through various public service activities e.g mentoring, civic engagement, work with charitable institutions etc.

Nominations Process:

If you know anyone that fits the categories indicated above, including yourself, nominate them via the TAC email ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).  Your email should include the person’s name, the category you are nominating them in, and a brief paragraph stating why they should receive the award.

Nomination Deadline: Please send your nominations by June 6th, as the first rounds of voting will be done during our June 7th and June 8th planning committee meetings.
